Opportunities:
Event Volunteers: Do you love working and having fun all at the same time? Well then you will surely want to volunteer at our upcoming events. Opportunities may vary.
Summer Club Teachers and Assistants: Love kids? Love summer? So do we! Our Summer Club kids will steal your heart. Instructional, Assistant, and Administrative positions available, all with direct student contact.
After-School Tutor/Mentor: Our high school students have questions on more than just Algebra–although Algebra and English loom pretty large on their radar. In our after-school program at Glencliff High School you’ll meet students who are in their second year of school–any school–at age 15. You’ll also meet students who’ve made it through their first few years in the United States, but still don’t feel they quite fit in. While homework might take center stage from time to time, our students have plenty of questions about navigating their school, their community, and their future. Help them set and reach their goals, and they’ll teach you about what it means to be a new American. Click here to learn more and to apply! Volunteers typically placed between September and April.
Youth Mentor: Do you want to help young people set the path for their future? Do you want to learn about the culture and experiences of refugee and immigrant youth? Youth Mentors are needed to help English language learners navigate their new environment, encouraging and developing confidence in immigrant youth who may feel caught between two worlds. Mentors are matched with and spend time with their high school student, participating in volunteer and community activities, exploring careers, and learning about college. Mentoring is a meaningful way to work with young people through issues of culture and identity. College students and young adults are especially encouraged to apply. View position description here. Please note that opportunities may vary.
Childcare Assistant: Do you love working with kids? We’d love to have you join our childcare team! We’re looking for volunteers in the mornings and evenings on weekdays to watch children while their parents attend classes. We provide a childcare room and we’re looking for energetic volunteers to provide the fun!
Administrative Assistant: Looking to meet new people while helping us fulfill our mission to serve the refugees and immigrants? We’re looking for patient and willing volunteers to help us staff our front desks, answer phone calls, and help us out around the office. If you’re an upbeat people person, this is the job for you!
English Teacher: NICE is currently looking for volunteers willing to instruct refugees and immigrants in their pursuit of the English Language! Prior teach experience is not necessary. This position is a weekly commitment, so if you’re interested in rewarding work in which you can build strong relationships with students, please sign up!
English Tutors: Some of our students would flourish better in a one on one setting. If you’re looking for an opportunity to build a meaningful relationship while helping someone improve their English (and enabling them to flourish in the US), then please sign up today! You’ll be matched with a student based on availability and briefed on how best to help them.
GED Teachers: Do you love teaching and want to try something a little different? Then become a part of our GED team! If you’re looking for an opportunity to teach a subject at which you excel, this is your chance!
Social Learning Program Volunteer: Do you have a desire and passion for working with refugees and immigrants? Do you have experience working with non-native English speakers? Can you make a commitment to regular meeting hours as well as the flexibility to assist clients according to their schedules? Then we’re looking for you! NICE is looking for Social Learning Program (SLP) volunteers to provide case management for Bhutanese families in our Refugee Integration Program. Duties would involve such tasks as assessing the family’s needs, assisting with various social services applications (such as Food Stamps and Medicare), scheduling and arranging NICE-provided transportation to doctor’s appointments, and monitoring children’s progress in school and/or part-time jobs. Prior case work or social work experience is not a requirement, but would certainly be a plus!
