The race to win the VOM is always a tight one at NICE. Each new volunteer placed in the running is considerably harder to beat than the last. More often than not, the one who wins does so by only the tinsiest most marginal whisker. But in the month of October, there were few dissenting votes against Lauren Livingston. Lauren joined NICE in June 2010 as an intern. During the summer, Lauren planned and organized NICE’s June Student Celebration/World Refugee Day & 100 Cars for Good Event, that saw NICE come a close second place in the competition, just barely winning a car! After her internship ended, Lauren transitioned into a volunteer position and has since dedicated her time to teach ESL classes. Lauren is well loved by her students. One student recently stated, “Lauren is so smart. I like learning from a smart teacher. It is good for me.” Her dedication and support of NICE’s Education Program as well as various other events during the year has made her one of NICE’s many treasured volunteers. This is why we are proud to uninanimously name Lauren as the Volunteer of the Month.
