Interns are an invaluable part of the NICE workforce. As a fast growing organization with an extensive community network, we offer you the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of global relations while exploring the possibility of future employment. For over a decade, our mission has been the empowerment of our clients through education, employment, resettlement and social adjustment services. We invite you to join us in our work.
We are currently accepting applications! Start/end dates are flexible and based on the responsibilities and needs of each position. While all intern and volunteer positions are unpaid, the program is competitive, and you are encouraged to approach it in the same way you would a job. We ask for a minimum of 15 hours per week; Consistent availability Monday through Friday 8am -5pm; Occasional nights and Saturdays. Specific schedule to be negotiated with supervisor. Most internships are currently offering remote work only, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Position Descriptions:
The Adult Education program supports English language learners as they integrate into life in the US. Through programs like Citizenship Instruction, High School Equivalency, and English literacy courses, the department helps to shape the future for immigrants and refugees across Nashville. As an Adult Education Intern, you will gain valuable experience as you are trained to teach classes, implement curriculum, and contribute to administrative processes which support the overall program.
Are you interested in becoming a youth mentor? Does fostering self-confidence, self-awareness and academic excellence sound like an exciting challenge? The NICE Summer Youth program invites students across Nashville to participate in academic enrichment activities, games, art therapy classes, and much more. NICE is looking for the perfect interns to support our elementary and middle school students. The ideal candidates will be reliable, able to supervise groups of young people, capable of leading virtual activities, and comfortable working in highly diverse settings. This is an exciting experience for anyone interested in education, recreation, or social work. Every intern selected for this program will participate in a specialized training program that includes learner management, conflict resolution, emergency preparedness, recreational activities and more.
One of the bustling components of our Adult Education program is our workforce development program. This program supports Newcomers as they navigate a complex job market with emergent language skills and often immense cultural barriers. As a Workforce Intern, you will learn how to navigate community based collaborations with workforce partners, research effective strategies from across the globe, and contribute to the design and implementation of our Entrepreneurship and Business career pathways.
NICE is searching for an intern that will develop class content and lead a citizenship ‘study hall’ on Zoom for NICE students. This virtual course will work with students that have taken a citizenship class and need practice to pass the naturalization interview. The intern will be responsible for communicating with students, planning lessons from the New Readers Press textbook Ready for the Interview,reviewing the civic questions, and tracking student progress. This intern will also report to administrative meetings, assist in ESL classrooms and collect student feedback and success stories. Some morning availability required. Training and Materials will be provided.
Do you like to plan events, attend parties, and organize? Interns will gain experience in event planning, community relations, and fundraising.
Work with development staff on grant writing, community relations, and fundraising.
Want to share our story or spread the word about the great work NICE is doing? Interns will gain experience in public relations and media management, community relations, and outreach.
Volunteers are vital to the inner workings of all NICE’s departments including adult and youth education, resettlement, health, and employment. By recruiting, retaining, and properly training volunteers, the volunteer coordinating team impacts immigrants and refugees across Nashville. As a volunteer relations intern, you will gain valuable experience as you train incoming volunteers, streamline current volunteer recruitment and retention processes, market our volunteer program, and contribute to administrative processes that make our organization effective.
Join NICE as an Employment Intern where you could research hiring processes and help refugees and immigrants acclimate to the United States by aiding their job search. New American Staffing Agency Intern Interns will have the exciting opportunity to participate in the beginning stages of New American Staffing Agency (NAS), a social enterprise designed by Nashville International Center for Empowerment (NICE) leadership to facilitate employment for immigrants and refugees in Nashville while also generating revenue to fund other programs at NICE.
