We are currently accepting applications! Start/end dates are flexible and based on the responsibilities and needs of each position. While all intern and volunteer positions are unpaid, the program is competitive, and you are encouraged to approach it in the same way you would a job. We ask for a minimum of 15 hours per week; Consistent availability Monday through Friday 8am -5pm; Occasional nights and Saturdays. Specific schedule to be negotiated with supervisor.

Positions:
The Adult Education program supports English language learners as they integrate into life in the US. Through programs like Citizenship Instruction, High School Equivalency, and English literacy courses, the department helps to shape the future for immigrants and refugees across Nashville. As an Adult Education Intern, you will gain valuable experience as you are trained to teach classes, implement curriculum, and contribute to administrative processes which support the overall program.
Does fostering self-confidence, self-awareness and academic excellence sound like an exciting challenge? NICE is looking for the perfect intern to support our elementary, middle, and high school students. This internship will assist in the evaluation of new mentors, recruitment of youth and their families, and the direct support and training for mentors on the ground. The ideal candidates will be reliable, able to supervise groups of young people, and comfortable working in highly diverse settings. This is an exciting experience for anyone interested in education or social work.
Partnering with the Nashville Afterschool Zone Alliance (NAZA), the NICE afterschool program seeks to empower middle schoolers by creating a safe and fun environment to foster resilience, promote healthy behaviors, and foster academic growth. Targeting our students most important needs, the afterschool program imbeds English literacy into games, stations, and activities. Currently, the program operates virtually on Zoom. The Youth Afterschool Intern will assist with recruiting new students, supporting families in navigating digital literacy, and hosting stations during programming. Every station is designed to teach competency in a specific content area through project based learning. The ideal candidates will be creative, diligent, reliable, and caring. Training will include some basic teaching strategies and cultural sensitivity for working in diverse settings.
Do you like to plan events, attend parties, and organize? Interns will gain experience in event planning, community relations, and fundraising.
Work with development staff on grant writing, community relations, and fundraising.
Want to share our story or spread the word about the great work NICE is doing? Interns will gain experience in public relations and media management, community relations, and outreach.
Volunteers are vital to the inner workings of all NICE’s departments including adult and youth education, resettlement, health, and employment. By recruiting, retaining, and properly training volunteers, the volunteer coordinating team impacts immigrants and refugees across Nashville. As a volunteer relations intern, you will gain valuable experience as you train incoming volunteers, streamline current volunteer recruitment and retention processes, market our volunteer program, and contribute to administrative processes that make our organization effective.
Join NICE as an Employment Intern where you could research hiring processes and help refugees and immigrants acclimate to the United States by aiding their job search. New American Staffing Agency Intern Interns will have the exciting opportunity to participate in the beginning stages of New American Staffing Agency (NAS), a social enterprise designed by Nashville International Center for Empowerment (NICE) leadership to facilitate employment for immigrants and refugees in Nashville while also generating revenue to fund other programs at NICE.
