Koang Chol was born to a devout Christian family in 1969 in the small town of Nasir in the Upper Nile State of South Sudan, which is bordered by Ethiopia on the south eastern part of the African continent. He attended the Sudan University of Science and Technology and in 1998, left Sudan to seek higher education in Lebanon. Due to the outbreak of war in Sudan, Koang became a refugee while in Lebanon and stayed there for six years. Life as a refugee was very difficult, but during that time Koang married his wonderful wife and had his first son on Christmas Eve of 2002. Koang was able to get permission from the UN to resettle in the United States, and he moved here in May of 2003. Koang began working for Walden Books Inc, and he went on to work for Dell Computer Inc., Preferred Alternative Inc., and Quality Living Inc. in 2011. Koang graduated from Nashville State Community College with an associate degree in Business Information Systems, and he now serves as the RSS Specialist at NICE, finding sustainable employment for refugees who have recently arrived in the Nashville area. He speaks Arabic, English, and Nuer.
