Sarah Russ is the Youth Outreach and Education Specialist at NICE, but before she moved to Nashville, she worked closely with immigrants and refugees in her home state of Minnesota. Sarah has experience with instruction and training, program development and coordination, and volunteer management. She has taught courses in GED, ESL (pre-literacy through advanced), computer, civic engagement, and employability skills. She holds a TEFL certificate from Hamline University and a B.A. from Macalester College. Joining the NICE team in October of 2010, she coordinates summer and after-school programming for elementary, middle, and high school students. She also teaches adult ESL classes and facilitates Culture Exchange sessions for K-12 school staff to help ensure a smooth transition for refugee students into the education system. In her “free” time, Sarah is an active member of the dance community. She enjoys pie, murder mystery parties, coffee, and spending time outdoors, and she loves to learn.
